Preserving, Protecting and Defending the Forests, Waterways and Native Species (or Wildlife) in the wild heart of north central Idaho.
Since 1987 Friends of the Clearwater has been protecting the public wildlands and rivers in the Clearwater Basin of beautiful North Central Idaho through grassroots organizing, education, advocacy, and when necessary, litigation. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Moscow, Idaho.

Our Advocacy Priorities
Protecting Old-growth Forests
Towering trees, fragile mushrooms, geometric ferns—old-growth forests are awe-inspiring habitats and effective carbon reservoirs. FOC fights to keep ancient forests free from logging and roadbuilding.

Recovering Endangered Species
There are seven threatened and endangered species native to the Clearwater. FOC advocates for the full recovery of Idaho's rarest wildlife and full enforcement of the Endangered Species Act.
The Clearwater basin contains over 1.5 million acres of unprotected wilderness, knows as “roadless areas”. We believe each of these irreplaceable areas should be legislatively protected as wilderness.
